Seen in 1978; 77 677 BMN was formerly Douglas 5 and had just emerged from a wash at, I think York Road garage, although I’m sure islanders will be able to correct. It was an AEC Regent V 2D2RA with Willowbrook H37/27F bodywork. (© Rob McCaffery) 1096x752 677BMN.JPG |
Seen in 1979; 76 A515 MN – the new order on the island in 1979 was a batch of former Merseyside/Liverpool Corporation Atlanteans. Here several seem to be using 76 as shelter from the dawn. 76 was L 714 in Liverpool and was a PDR1/1 with Metro-Cammell H43/35F bodywork. (© Rob McCaffery) 1088x720 A515MAN.JPG |

The bus had been sold for use as an immobile cafe but was often to be found still stored on IOMNT/IOMPTB premises. It was later painted all-over black and eventually scrapped. To the right is sister 86 (C57 MAN) during its last few months in service with IoM Passenger Transport Board. This bus is now preserved on the Island. (© Richard Dodge) 840x1260 A518MAN.jpg |

[MMN11] An update on this vehicle for its followers. This week (w/e 18/07/2009) it has finally been moved from where it has been stored for quite a time to the secure area of the workshop facilities. Fingers crossed it is at last up for restoration. (© N. Edward-Few via Chris Stanley) 2104x1616 MMN11.jpg |
[MN2615] 1923 Tilling Stevens TS3A, the second generation of Tilling-Stevens petrol electrics introduced in July 1921, bus chassis. Built in 1923 for use in Douglas on the Isle of Man, it ran until 1935 with a single deck body. The chassis is virtually identical to those fitted with 48 seat double-deck bodies for use in London. The vehicle survived for some years, becoming a generator unit in 1938 and acquired for preservation in 1957, before the chassis was acquired by the Museum of British Transport in the early 1960s to represent the type. It was restored for exhibition in a London livery, at the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, between 1992 and 1993. Seen at the LTM Acton Museum Depot, 1st November 2008. © Chris Stanley. #1 of 2 1024x768 MN2615.jpg |

[MN5454] Not quite what it seems - ex-Isle of Man Road Services Thornycroft BC Forward No 13 has been preserved by Isle of Man Transport, but for a while was finished in this mock operator livery for use in a film being made on the Island (could have been Waking Ned, can’t quite remember). It is seen in the now non-operational Homefield depot carrying ‘Kildare Bus Company’ name and fake registration ZA2127. (© Richard Dodge) 1081x704 MN5454.jpg |
